The clips that hold the walls together do not actually work very well so the walls buckle and come undone. I fixed that problem by putting plastic zip ties throughout the play pen. But you shouldn’t have to add zip ties to an item in order to hold it together when it costs $100. There’s really no practical way to return it because it is very heavy. Also, you need a drill to attach the feet if you want to have wheels.

After reading reviews, I was very hesitant to order this product. (But, I needed a place for a rescued cat and her four kittens). So, I came armed with patience and twist-ties! I am a 66 year old grandmother and put the cage together, by myself, in about half an hour. Once together, this cat cage is sturdy and attractive with plenty of room for the mama and babies. Had I been more confident when I placed my order, I would have also ordered the accessories, The cat “bed” included is much better quality then I expected; I would have ordered an extra “bed” had I known how nice it is. So, lay out all the pieces on the floor….. as you follow the instructions, just add a “twist-tie” after each step, to prevent the collapse that so many people complained about. Once the cage is completely assembled, it is very sturdy. Once successfully assembled, I replaced the twist-ties with zip-ties, but actually, I don’t believe you need the reinforcement, as the cage seems very secure on it’s own. When the kittens were very small, I left a top door open, so mama cat could come and go as she pleased, and could use a larger litter box than the one I put on the floor of the cage for the kittens to use, The most tedious part of the cage constructions was attaching the wheels. The wheels are good quality and nice to have to easily move the cage when necessary. Over all, this is a great product, and considering the reasonable price, I have to give it 5 stars. So, the secret is TWIST-TIES….. use them and you will save your sanity and have no problem with the assembly.

I love this cage, and cannot say enough good things about it!!! FIRST, let me start by addressing previous reviews of this item. It was a bit more difficult to put together then other similar cages that I have bought, and the cage by itself is NOT STURDY, and I would definitely NOT put my pets in here as it was sold to me. HOWEVER, with $5 worth of zipties invested, this is THE BEST CAGE I’VE EVER BOUGHT!!! It’s SAFE, and ROOMY. I love the design of the shelves (which are a better design then the Marshall Folding Mansion for Small Animals) as they lock into place on 3 walls of the cage. The luxuriously spacious door design (also better then Marshall), is absolutely FANTASTIC to get your pet, or anything within the cage, in and out easily. The doors also have built in locks (not offered by Marshall), to keep your pet in, which is fantastic for me because I house Cottontail bunnies in these cages, and they are thinkers which can get out of almost anything. Cottontails are EXTREMELY rambunctious, and give this cage a run for its money (there is a party going on in my house EVERY morning at 2 a.m.), but NEVER has the cage failed. With the zip ties, this cage is SAFE and SECURE, and I have NEVER had ANY kind of incident with any of them getting hurt.I cannot be more thrilled with this cage!! One of the shelves even comes with a padded “bed” that straps on securely, so the bunny cannot throw it to the bottom of the cage. I just wish Midwest sold those Beds/Pads separately because I’d like to have extras in the event that one gets soiled. The wheel design is pretty stupid in my opinion, but it does work, and I haven’t had any problems with them. I have 3 of these cages and am delighted!! The price is also the best you’re going to find for a cage this size. I highly recommend this cage (and a 100 pack of zip ties), to anyone in need of housing of a smaller pet!!!

I purchased this “playpen” as a way of retraining my 10 lb, female cat who has seemingly forgotten where she is supposed to relieve herself. After given a clean bill of health from the veterinarian, I have opted to confine my cat so she has nowhere else to urinate and defecate but the litter box in the cage. I’ve had her in the cage for several days now and it is going well. Soon I will open up her area of accessibility to the bathroom with the cage open. If she passes that test, I will continue to increase her accessibility to the house until I feel that she is only relieving herself in the litter box. I’m very pleased with the low cost of this cage due to my (hopefully) temporary need for it.

I like the playpen I currently have 5 cats. 3 adults 2 babies fit. All are outside cat’s. I leave the babies in the cage, so they don’t get ran over for being curious & the adult cats I only put them in the cage at night & when I leave. I got it because of the babies safety & because I have a neighbor who like to feed my cats at night. Her house is near the driveway of our townhouses & when she feeds them it puts them in danger of getting ran over…so now I put them up before I go to bed. The litter box & food bowls fit perfect. It’s easy to clean & pull the tray out to clean it. I put a net over it at night to keep some of the breeze out & when it rains I bring it in the house.I put up a lot of hammocks & they love to play & sleep in them. I just cut & tied old sheets & towels to the bars.

It will be a while before we actually use this, but we did set it up for a trial run. Although the instructions are vague, my husband did manage to get it set up without too much difficulty. I’m sure it will be easier the next time he does it. We would definitely recommend getting the zip ties to stabilize the structure at corners and other areas. It’s great that this can be folded down for storage, but you sacrifice a little in the overall stability. I think the zip ties will remedy this and it’s alright with us. The cushion is nice and plush, but the shelves are pretty flimsy. They made a lot of noise when our cat jumped on them and also when he jumped down to the floor. It startled our cat and scared him a bit. Hopefully he will get used to it. The doors open from the middle, so you get a nice wide area to get into the cage and change food, water, and attend to the litter box. We purchased this cage/kennel to contain one of our four cats when we go on vacation. He attacks one of our other female cats (we have 4 cats total) and makes her miserable. We have been boarding him at a kennel, but he doesn’t eat and gets really depressed there, so I don’t want to do that anymore. I know he won’t like this confinement either, but at least he’ll be in his own home and our friend will come and feed him, clean the litter boxes, etc. We are hopeful that it will be a better situation than the boarding. Overall, if you need a cage that folds down for storage, I would say this one is well priced and serviceable.UPDATE – We’ve been using this for close to two years. We now leave it up all the time. Currently we’re using it to retrain one of our cats to use the litter box. This crate/cage is SO much better than confining an animal to the bathroom. The other cats hang out around the cage with him, so he doesn’t feel horribly confined. Even after we start letting him back lose in the house, we will probably have him sleep here at night and when we’re gone, to avoid the possibility he would go in the house – he has Inflammatory Bowel Disease. We are so happy we bought this unit. It is a great way to temporarily confine cats. I’d buy it again for sure.

Does not work with the Amazon Basics Cat Playpen. The platforms on the Amazon Basics are bigger than on the Midwest so this bed is too small and there is no way to use the velcro on this bed to attach it to the platforms.Cats didn’t like it as it slid around.I returned these and bought some that fit snug and didn’t need to be attached.Cats are much happier now.

I purchased this cage to be able to train kittens while I fostered. It wasn’t very easy to assemble even with 2 people and it did require some muscle in some areas. Once assembled, it wasn’t as sturdy as I thought it would be and it was a bit shaky and wobbly. You definitely need zip ties for this but for the price, you can’t expect perfection. It is very roomy and accommodated the jumping and energetic activity of 4 kittens rather nicely. It’s a nice cage if you can get passed the frustration of the assembly and some quirky issues with the doors.

Sturdy, well designed cat cage that I have made into a catio. I placed it on a table outside a window. I removed one of the cage doors and backed it up against the window screen in which I cut an entry hole so that my mostly indoor kitty can climb in and out at will. I’d love to see a design change that would place a door to allow access from opposing sides, or allow customer to change door placement. Great customer service went above and beyond to fix a minor problem. Highly recommend this company.

For a new kitten mom, this is a God send! I brought my kitty home in August and she is so hyper at night and basically kicked me out of my room because she would chase my feet, play with my hair, and just generally get into stuff she wasnt supposed to. I bought this cage to get my room back and even little Sybil loves it! It was pretty east to put together, and I got a few extra things like toys and such to put in there and she doesn’t make a peep at night. I let her out during the day and she still plays in it. I even put a hammock in there and she sleeps in it every night. Her litter, food, water, and toys all fit comfortably. Best investment of 2018.

Please note, this review does not reflect Amazon’s performance in this transaction. They’ve almost always been on top of things for me, and I’m sure they’d make this purchase right, as well (replace/refund). Unfortunately, I need to use this cage NOW, so I’ll have to make do.The cage, itself, and MidWest, are the focus of my review.Again, this cage will do for my needs (just one Manx kitten [incontinent]), after I do some overall tightening/tweaking.When my purchase arrived, it was easy enough to remove from its box. Simple enough to assemble, too, for me.Unfortunately, some of the joints/clips seem to have loosened while in transit, I believe. I think it’s due to movement/stresses/impact during shipping with no padding to keep the cage from bouncing/shaking/rattling/vibrating. Two of the clips attaching the locking arms to the upper swing doors had detached and were found at the bottom of the box. Some rust can be seen where one of the clips used to be.With pliers, I was able to re-attach the clips, as well as tighten other clips that had become loose from the stresses of shipping. However, the clips that had come loose weren’t as secure as those that’d remained attached. I believe a few new clips would fix the problem. On MidWest’s Assembly Instructions Sheet, they provide an 800 number and ask that one call if there were any missing parts (or other parts issues, I’m guessing). Called them yesterday. They were closed. Left a voicemail. No return call today. Called toward the end of the day (their time), still during business hours. My call still went to voicemail, with no return call. I just don’t have time to play tag with MidWest.Since this cage is urgently needed (like yesterday), I’ll tighten down all the stressed/loosened clips, myself, and use small zip ties to reinforced the cage, no thanks to MidWest.I believe MidWest should package/pad their cages better, so they can arrive more intact. If this cage had arrived any more damaged from shipping due to insufficient packaging (IMO), I would’ve had no other choice, but to return it, and I would’ve really been screwed. Luckily, it’s usable enough. As for MidWest’s Customer Service, it sucks.Way to back up your product, MidWest, NOT!

Okay, I’ve had this for a year now, time to write a review.Got this for an older rescue cat who is diabetic and used to eating food like food was going out of style. I had to reinforce it when I put it together, using plastic zip ties. To start with, I only put in the first, lowest shelf, because the cat was a blob with a cat head on it, and she couldn’t reach the higher shelves. As the excess weight came off, she could climb and jump, and I added the second shelf, also putting a food dish on it, so that she eats on that shelf. She wound up breaking the first shelf so I reinstalled the third shelf where that shelf had been, then reinforced it with the second shelf, bungeeing the whole lot with short bungee cables as well. I added a bungee to the top shelf. I lined the whole thing with dog pee pads, (the disposable kind) and change the dirt box every couple of days, scooping and laying a new pad daily, as well. The lower shelf has the pad on it. I also had to reinforce both doors with large clippies, the kind for paper, so that she wouldn’t open them, as they do not latch well as they’re built. So reinforce, reinforce, reinforce. It’s worked pretty well–for its price–as long as you remember that it won’t stay together without reinforcing with the zipties.I saw someone say it works well for five cats–but I have only the one living in it pretty much full time–she’s allowed out for supervised holding and petting and loving–and she’s got enough room to live well in it by herself. The other cat is a grazer, so we can keep his food dish full and the old girl can’t get to it with this kennel in home.It wasn’t terribly hard to put together once I figured out how to keep it from collapsing while I pieced it. I am disabled and getting old, so if I could do it, pretty much anyone could. But get cable zipties with it. If you have an active cat or cats, whether or not they live in it full time, get short bungie cords to reinforce the shelves.

The cage itself seems very sturdy, I was able to put it together by myself even though it was a little tricky. I have put one of these together before with the help of another person. After putting it together I also reinforced it by using some zip ties on areas that had some looseness or extra play. Unless you are planning on taking it apart and moving it frequently I would recommend doing this. One thing I didn’t like was the hardware provided to attach the castors to the bottom of the cage. The bolts were slightly too short to be able to use the lock washers without difficulty and upon tightening the nuts, a few of them stripped the threads on the bolts quite easily. I attribute this to cheap steel used in production for the hardware. All in all I like the cage even though my cat isn’t a fan yet, but I’ll probably go to the hardware store and pick up some new bolts/nuts and redo the castor assembly.

I ended up taking in a hurt stray cat and with a house hold of 4 dogs I wasn’t sure if they would accept a cat so thank god from Amazon Prime, this was delivered in 2 days and I was able to switch him from a dog kennel to something more for him while he healed. He loves this and since we decided to keep him this makes it to where i can keep him away from the dogs and he has his own space. He is a big cat (that’s the first thing everyone notices when they see him) he isn’t fat since he was a stray but he is 11 lbs and is very long and tall. I use the self attaching cat bed on one of the shelves and then combined the other two shelves to put an igloo for him to sleep in. The bottom has his litter box and food bowls and this pen is big enough for him and all his stuff.

The crate and parts arrived in good condition. The setup was more difficult than the horizontal dog-type crates, but that is to be expected. As anticipated, the crate needed reinforcing cable ties to be strong/safe enough for three active cats under a year old. I found reviews where other people’s cats ran their paws down the seam and got toes caught in the gap between panels. We did not use the wheels (hard floors), but may add them when the cats are calmer. I used small “rag rugs” around the two bare shelves to improve traction. The multiple door arrangement allows easy access to all areas of the crate; you have to get used to the way they fasten, but they work well if you are deliberate. It is fine as overnight quarters and short term crating when we’re out. It is too small for three cats if they must stay crated all the time, as in a shelter. The bottom level fit a large litter pan and one bed. The shelves easily fit one adult size cat or two “teenage” size cats. The fold-down option becomes impractical if cable ties are used, but this isn’t a problem for us. This is in an elevated coastal cottage built for summer, but we were there in November with record low temps and wind. The cats really appreciated the ability to get far above the cold floor to sleep at night. We always evaluate our pets’ items for possible safety hazards before using and often have to modify or reinforce. I would recommend this with the understanding that reinforcement might be required, especially where the panels meet in the corners.

This cage is the best for my 5 week old rescue. I live in a tiny NYC apartment and yet Charlie got a condo before I did ????Ordered 2 more perch beds, and put in a disposable litter box, scratching/hiding perch, hammock, and filled it with little toys. Using a pair of ramekins for food and water until this lil guy grows a tad more.. Peep the litter genie next to the unit. Was a bit of a pain to put together, play close attention to the instructions for rotating the hinges where the panels meet. The whole thing came crashing down on my left index finger upon assembly and left a bruise. Gotta reinforce with zip ties but feels quite sturdy after correctly putting it together anyway. That middle perch needed zip ties as the levels are made to attach to the sides. Got it securely on there though. So yeah zip ties are my second best friend after the fur baby.

Wow, this cage is huge! I’m 5’3″ and it goes up to right below the shoulder. It’s sturdy and well-made. My 2 cats (~7lbs each) have been playing in and out of it (to get them used to being in it) and absolutely no tipping or even any hint of falling over. Totally worth the money and it will save what’s left in my house from being demolished while we’re out or asleep. Would definitely recommend!Update: Now that my cats have been using this for a bit, I have removed the wheels because they kept coming off. My cats spend their day in this cage while I’m at work and due to their age (10 months) they’re very rambunctious and the wheels just couldn’t take it. It’s no big deal for me since I don’t move the cage except to clean under/behind it but if you intend to move it around a lot, I would keep this in mind. Still, no buyers remorse for me. My cats are so much happier being out in the living room in this cage for the day so they can see their surroundings than they ever were locked up in my office at the back of the house. Will continue recommending this product.
Ms. Meri –
Nice cage overall, and with a couple of minor fixes works great for my cat. I ordered this for a large older cat with health issues, it is a good fit for him and his large covered litter box. He has been all over it, up and down with no problems. And spends most of his tile sleeping on the top shelf on the pillow that came with the cage.Positives: I was able to put this together myself; with a little “help” from my 5 year old grandson, making it take longer than it might have otherwise :^) I like that the doors latch over themselves and also have locks, my cat can open some doors, cupboards and the dog crates, but he can’t figure these out. The four large doors allow access to the entire cage. The wheels move freely and make cleaning in and around the cage very easy.Cons: I would not use it with multiple cats as shown unless they are very small. Like several other reviewers, I too found that there are some gaps at the top that could be hazardous, as well as some of the “clips” didn’t seat tightly and popped out easily, but I solved that by buying heavy duty zip ties. I tightened up corners and gaps, and did the same for the shelves just to ensure they felt sturdy to the cat.All in all a good investment, very happy with what I got .

I was super excited to get this a day earlier than expected only to open the box and find it broken. Not only was the tray shattered on one end but one of the metal pieces had broken off. Despite being damaged we still ended up putting it together and using it out of necessity. The thought of having to return/wait for another cage was not really possible. It was fairly easy to put together with the help of another person and zip ties helped to secure everything. The ties also made me feel more confident that it wouldn’t fall apart on our cat. Not sure who is at fault for the damaged goods (very well could have been damaged in shipping) but the cage itself is good quality. There was one really poor defect that made us shake our head. The manufacturer tag was installed upside down. Oh well. Hope is serves its purpose.

I bought this to place my cat in at night and when we leave the house so she’s safe. It was fairly easy to set up, except the wheels, that was kind of difficult. It wasn’t super sturdy. so I placed zip ties at the top sides and the top area so it would hold better. It started to rust fairly quick. I do put food and water in it but never leave it wet we always clean up the water. You have to be careful and make sure to push the doors in before you lock it or else the bottom curved part wont wrap around and secure it. It would be nice to have one of the shelves be wider, but i could kind of see how that could be an issue because the doors.

I have a large cat condo cage that I use from time to time, after either taking a cat into the house to get used to the house and other cats, or using for after returning from the vet after an operation. Every cat preferred this soft cushion to the others. It washes nicely and slips on over the shelf easily. WEll worth the money. And it is soft and cushiony and washes well in the machine

I’m going to go ahead and write this review even though I just finished assembling the crate and haven’t used it yet because I already have two large dog crates made by Midwest and have been using them for a long time (By the way, the dog crates work very well and my dogs go in there all the time even when they aren’t being shut in – though I would not recommend them for large, strong, determined to escape dogs.) so I’m pretty familiar with the product in general.Back to the cat cage. Even though I anticipated some trying moments with assembly, I was not prepared for the amount of “fun” we were going to have with this process. Because this is a tall cage it has two panels that make up the sides which were all to happy to unhinge themselves in the middle of the process and fall…on your head. We finally got it together and the instructions called for laying it on its side to put on the wheels. Ha and double ha! Unhinging started immediately. Finally, and because this was not my first rodeo, I strolled the garage and return with a large bag of zip ties. We reinforced the whole cage with zip ties and, at the end, reinforced a corner of each shelf with them as well. The shelves weren’t much fun to insert and could be wider (triangular maybe?), the doors don’t lock very gracefully (one little lock was installed backwards and in general the door mechanisms were much worse than on the aforementioned dog crates – weird), the pan is sticky in pulling it out and putting it back in. Attaching the wheels allowed us to practice contortion, which was thoughtful of the manufacturer. Really, that wheel attaching system could be much better because this one requires you to work through the cages, bolting two plates and the wheel together simultaneously, and let’s not forget the tiny bolts and nuts that you are working with in the process. How about wing nuts? Larger bolts? Maybe even a small solid square of metal in each corner of the cage? The four star rating is because of the size of the cage, the fact that there are casters included, the metal shelves which are much sturdier than in some cages, the double sets of wide doors and a pretty reasonable price. 3.5 stars might be a more reasonable rating. If you are considering this product I strongly suggest that you arm yourself with 20-25 zip ties of medium length, a cup of coffee, patience, and a sense of humor. Also, though it could be done by one person, having two is better. I expect my small cat to have plenty of room and do fine in this cage once she gets past her indignation but I’m not sure how I think the cage would hold up to a larger cat determined to escape.

I had three rescued kittens that i needed to corral and this served the purpose well. It would be better with just two, but we made it work with three. It was fairly easy to assemble (I’m 76 yr old female and did it alone…) the shelves are handy, although the feral kittens wouldn’t get on the furry pad…for whatever reason. A nice product with wheels makes it easy to move around. Four doors make it easy to work with with the kits inside.

This is my second, a replacement, Midwest Cat Playpen and like the first one it was defective on arrival. The first one arrived with a cracked, and not a little crack but a huge crack, on the plastic pan. It also arrived with the washers nut and screws loose inside and more than half missing. The replacement, which I just got, arrived with a hole in the plastic pan, and it was missing all the washers, both lock washers and regular washers. I am not going to send it back this time because the inconvenience of disassembling and repacking this heavy item, but would hope to hear from Amazon or MidWest about a possible remedy.

This appeared to be a really spacious cage for my cat, and the price of just over $100 that I found seemed reasonable. Now that I have it and it is put together, it is very functional, but the experience of putting it together was not at all pleasant. It comes folded flat. It’s a little tricky to get the sides and top in place and stable all at the same time. Once it was standing on its own, it still seemed loose enough that I was afraid it would fall apart if it were bumped or jostled. This seemed to be because some of the hooks that hold the sides and top together were not bent/formed as well as they should have been. So, I used some pliers to bend several of the hooks to make it more secure. That was only a minor annoyance, however, compared to trying to put the wheels on. Each wheel is held on by 4 bolts. There were 4 nuts, 4 flat washers and 4 “spring” type lock washers for each wheel as well. However, the bolts for each wheel seemed to be just a little too short, and so I could never get the nuts to thread onto the end of the bolt if both a flat and lock washer were placed on the bolt. So, I then tried just using the lock washer and leaving off the flat washer. That worked for some bolts, but not all. I ended up using just the flat washer for some bolts in order to make it work, but it was still pretty tough to get the nuts seated onto the bolts.I did finally succeed in getting the thing assembled after about an hour of extreme frustration, and it is a very nice cage. I highly recommend that the manufacturer take a look at the hardware being shipped with this product to ensure that it’s suitable for attaching the wheels, and also at the quality control related to forming the wire hooks that hold the sides and top together.

This portable cage is exactly as it is described. The wiring is of high quality painted steel. It is assembled with only a screwdriver to mount the four casters beneath the floor of the cage. (As a matter of personal choice, I also used a pair of pliers to squeeze the tabs together a bit more.)I am using this cage to temporarily house small kittens who need some help returning to health. The three shelves would be adequate for adult cats, but for kittens (my immediate need) there is no good way for them to get from shelf to shelf. I made a small carpet covered ramp to let them climb up, but they usually jump down. The shelf height is determined by the position of the horizontal cage ribs that run around the sides of the cage. Because of the length requirements, these shelves can only be used from the front to back (depths) of the cage. I use the second and third ribs (from the floor) only. The two sets of double doors operate easily and contain a safety latch to keep little humans or smart kittens from easily opening the cage.UPDATE:I have now been using the ‘habitat’ for a couple of weeks. It works well for us. We are fostering kittens and needed a small place for quarantine and a larger place for keeping them when they aren’t playing. At the moment we have three kittens ages of approximately 6 weeks. I bought one of the habitats and by the time food, water, beds, and a sand box are added the space is significantly diminished. Noting how the habitats were constructed, I purchased a second habitat.Noting how the home was constructed, I placed the two habitats side-by-side. On the adjacent walls of each habitat, I folded the top section tightly to the lower part of the wall. I then used plastic cable ties to secure the habitats along the top, back, and front. My little pampered kittens now have twice the space to play, a place to get some ‘alone time,’ and still have the association with the other kittens. They do not complain when they are placed in the habitat, but we still let them out several hours a day to run and play. (We now have homes for all three pending their clean bill of health, but I feel certain there will be more along at any time. I am thankful for the flat storage and short setup time.)

Invaluable for my two recently adopted cats. While they do spend the vast majority of their time free in the house, some nights they are too crazy, and having a place to confine them really helps on those sleepless nights, and for when I want to open the dog door for the dog. I feed them in there, and there is plenty of room for a full-sized cat box on the bottom, as well as a small pet bed. I took heed of the many warnings about the possibility of toes being caught in the upper corners, and wrapped clear packing tape around those four places. Seems sturdy enough, love the four doors and the locking mechanisms. They go in by themselves sometimes even if I’m not feeding them, so they don’t hate it.Definitely wrap the upper corners of each side with tape or zip ties – any place where the sides come together to form a “V”. I was surprised to watch my cats actually climbing the walls of this thing, both inside and out, and I can easily see how they could get toes caught by accident in those places. Several reviews mention various injuries due to this, as well as some amputations, so do take precautions.

I have bought many products from Midwest including 2 dog crates and a long time ago a kitten cage a bi smaller than this one. I loved all my purchases until this one. My mistake was not to open it right away because I found that I did not need it as I had expected. When I did need it to keep a newly neutered kitten away from his friend it was a disaster. I could not open it up as shown in the instructions as some of the wires were in the wrong place and caught on other pieces. I ended up having to use the claw end of a hammer to separate the pieces. It was unwieldy to put together just one person as the sides didn’t want to stay together. After finally getting it set up I faced the shelves. The were ridiculous and unbalanced. There were only support wires on one side so they tipped over. I was so disgusted that I didn’t bother to use it and had to keep the kitten shut in a room instead. It was two days before I could look at it again to take it apart. Had I got it out when I first bought it I would have returned it.

I highly recommend this 50” Midwest Cat playpen. I paid $94.94 here at Amazon plus free shipping. I am VERY pleased!!! I hesitated purchasing this item after reading some of the negative reviews posted here and also posted on other sites. I do NOT understand the negative reviews. I searched extensively prior to making this purchase. I’m glad I ordered this one rather than going w/ the more expensive one. One person could set it up on their own, but it is much simpler with two people. My Himalayan kitten is very young and I’m not so sure that I could trust my dog to play nice the entire time I’m away. This unit will keep him comfortable and safe. I will only use this is on days that I will be gone for more than an hour or so at a time. I also purchased a pack of perch pads. This crate/playpen only comes with one and you can save money buying the 3 pack. I also purchased a hanging scratch post and hung it inside with a plastic cable tie. The Midwest crate dishes are sold here at Amazon too.

I have no idea why this got a good review because it’s crap! The entire structure is very flimsy. We are going to have to use zip ties to secure it all together. We put one of the shelves in and it tips down with the slightest weight on it. I can’t imagine anything heavier than a hamster would feel secure on it. We bought this because of all the stellar reviews and I guess we got a lemon. We are extremely disappointed in this product and would not recommend it at all!!!!!!!! To top it off, one of the shelves’ cross bars was broken off completely when we took it out of the box. And the door open latch is so easy to open, I’m betting our cat will have figured it out by the end of the day. Such a waste of money. Unfortunately we missed the return window or else this thing would be out of here!

This playpen offers our three kittens a place to sleep and keeps their litter box off the floor/carpet, which is great! Because they have had this since we brought them home (and the previous foster family had one too), it’s made it natural for them. It also provides us with a way to keep them out of trouble when we have to leave the house without locking them up in the bathroom. Because of its breakdown ability, I am also able to offer it to friends that will be cat sitting for me while we are gone for a few days.I bought a hammock for them and it clips in perfectly! It took the kittens a few days to figure out how to climb in, but now, I find 2 of them (and occasionally all 3) in it together. It’s prime relestate! The only two faults I have with this playpen is that 1) it wasn’t very easy to connect together. My husband said that once you click one side on, the other side liked to pop off. But eventually, he got it done and it has held together pretty well. 2) I wished the company sold the shelf units separately. I bought another set of shelves that I thought were going to work, but they don’t. I ended up donating them to the rescue group that I got them from and they were able to use them in their playpen (different company).Still, overall, I couldn’t do without this!

This was a beautiful product on the website and in person until it was time to put it together. It was very hard to ATTEMPT to put together. Once I was able to get the sides separated, it took me 20 minutes to do one side–the hooks would not separate!!! I was finally able to unfold all of the sides and then wouldn’t you know it– the bottom is damaged! The plastic was cracked and there is a hole on the bottom! And wouldn’t you know it, the time for return was up. I didn’t put it together the second it came to the door because it wasn’t time. If I had known this product was going to be so difficult I wouldn’t have purchased it. I am VERY angry!

I have a screen enclosed patio, but with the active critter scene around here (lizards, etc.), my cats would lay waste to the screen in seconds. I wanted an option to let them get some fresh air and sun, since they are strictly indoor cats, while feeling secure about not having a runner to contend with. I have this out on my patio now, and it lines up nicely with my slightly elevated entrance so I can just open my door, open up the bottom doors on the cage, and the boys come and go as they please. I did notice some subtle gaps where mesh wall meets mesh wall, so I played it safe and reinforced by wrapping a thin strip of duct tape around areas that I wanted to ensure wouldn’t result in an accidental pinch. My only complaint is that I have had the darnedest time getting the shelving to fit perfectly. One hook on each doesn’t want to completely line up.

I read the many reviews of kitties getting their toes/feet caught. My cat is a climber and has climbed all over the outside and inside and has never had an issue. The gaps between the sides and top are too big for a toe or foot to get caught. I am assuming the manufacturer fixed the issue by widening the gap. I saw one person suggest using zip ties to secure the sides and top. I would not recommend this as I think that would make it more likely that you kitty would experience a mishap. I have the litter box in the bottom and food/water dishes on the top shelf. Works great for my cat. I put her in it when we go to bed or when we leave the house to keep her from getting on the counters. It is big and roomy. I don’t put toys in it. She doesn’t seem to play w/ toys while she is in it. If I put toys in it, they end up on the bottom or in the litter box. I do put a towel in the bottom to make it easier to clean up the cat litter that will stray from the litter box.

First of all the wheels were definitely a challenge to attach to the bottom. The cage was fairly easy to hook together but I cannot say the cage is sturdy whatsoever. I needed the cage because I recently received three cats from a family member who can’t at the moment house these cats. So we took them in, please note these cats are extremely lazy and will not try to escape or fiddle with the cage. There are 3 cats so each has its bed and they just down to drink, eat, potty. If you have a playful cat I do not recommend this cage. The cage could potentially collapse if the cat/animal were to mess with the cage. But these cats a relatively lazy and couldn’t care less about the cage. But I do look after them all the time because you can never be too careful. I took 1 star off because it is not very stable.

This is really fun for a kitten, a safe place to stay when we can’t be there. Considering getting a second one for a second kitten. Two kittens can play in one, with supervision. The pictures showing 2-3 cats laying on the shelves illustrate the size; I would not shut even two kittens in one unattended. (Even the mother cat doesn’t leave the kittens unsupervised together for extended periods.)The plush bed for one shelf is another nice feature – easy to put in, easy to remove for washing. One significant minus is finding a place to hang cage cups. The bottom wire leaves the cups too high for a kitten to eat or drink from (the cups need to be lower then the bottom of their chests.)As with any crate, we clean the litter box several times a day, as the kitten or cat has nowhere else to go to for access to clean air.Fun to watch the kitten learn to jump shelf-to-shelf; ours loves to sit on the top shelf & doze or watch the world. MUCH more fun than a standard height crate, and a good price at $100 including shipping. You only have to buy it once, and you’ll have it forever.ASSEMBLY TIPS:This crate requires two people to set up (or a lot of strings & places to tie them), as each side folds in half as well as folding at the base. It needs the shelves to stay in place with any pressure or movement on the cage. We had fun doing this, however. The wheels are very clever, with two plates to keep them in place around the cage wire. We put in the shelves, then turned it on its side to attach the wheels. Be sure to use the washers & locking washers or the nuts fall off over time. To accomplish this, put all the parts together as loosely as possible (bolt-washer then locking-washer-nut) then tighten them once they’ve all caught. We seriously considered buying bolts 1/16″ longer, but it all worked out.

The perches are not very sturdy. One broke in half and another will no longer stay in place due to the weak cage construction allowing warping over time.I saw in the comment section how some cats have gotten their paws stuck. It happened to mine a time or two as well but thankfully no amputations so far.On the positive side it is roomy and I like the top and bottom double doors. But I wouldn’t trust this cage with large cats as it will not last long. Kittens would probably be fine if they are too big to fit through the bars. But even with them I would recommend taking precautions with the cage corners so that paws don’t get horribly stuck with a tragic outcome. As a side note when I purchased Amazon had a suggestion for some optional shelves which I also ordered but these are for a ProSelect cage. While the dimensions are right for this cage those platforms will not sit flat in this cage without some sort of modification. Also they are not perches and do not seem stable unless you use all 3 to make a floored 2nd level. That’s great if you need to separate cats in a pinch but it obviously also cuts their play space in half.

We are using this for our cat who has ringworm so that we can put her outside during the day. We used giant paper clips to fast towels on the shelves to make it more comfortable for her. we lined the bottom with a large towel as her kitty litter made a mess. we love that we can wheel it around the backyard to put her in the sun or shade or out of the wind as needed. The casters work very well. I wish they made a cover!

I am using this to introduce a new cat to an established household. She has a room to herself but comes out in this playpen to get used to the other cat. Well made. The wheels make it great to roll out and back. My cat has not attempted to climb it which I suspect has been the problem with those who have complained about kittens getting stuck. Well made. Easy to assemble. It says folding – and it does- not not without some effort. I would fold it for long term storage but not on a daily basis.

Absolutely simple to lift up – and it’s practically done! Just add the wheels, the pets, food, litter pans, and toys.Great product for small animals. Perfect for our temporary needs (rescue pets) for emergency – ill and elderly owner. The cat home is well made, easy to access with double doors – up and bottom sections. They love the different levels! We love and appreciate the room and safety that the 2 kittens have while we are at work; plus the easy access that we have to them (different home while owner is hospitalized and recovering, not too sure what mischief they might get into – we have a dog).Highly recommended! We would buy it again.

They are reasonable priced, washable, very soft, and not overly fuzzy, unlike some sherpa lamb’s wool covers. Best of all, delivery was quick. Also, while I really like that the mats can be fastened to the shelves to keep them in place, I’m not yet entirely convinced the attached velcro will hold under stress.I guess I’ll have to update after I’ve used them for a while.

This was a bit tedious to put together, I didnt bother to put wheels on for carpet. It was a heavy drag. Even worse to take apart. But once in use it does the job, and thats what I wanted was for it to hold my cats.

I run a rescue and care for many cats and I depend on these for kitten intake for this time of year. I have ordered a total of three of them – the first came in great shape, the second came a little bent (which isn’t that big of a deal as long as the doors work good), but the third one came with some bars broken off and one of the doors doesn’t work at all. I expect some damage with shipping but there is a line. I can’t wait for a return and replacement because of the animal intake at this time of year.

I will echo the other reviewers that say that this is not a high quality product. However, it’s not a high quality price tag, either, so you have to take that into consideration. You will need two people to help get it out of the box and hook the sides together. If you try to tackle it on your own, it will be extremely frustrating to do.The casters are ridiculously difficult to put together, so I gave up on those. Just a dumb design when they are expecting homeowners to install them. You need about three sets of hands, so forget it.The cushion barely fits on the shelf. I have one shelf that will NOT stay straight. It’s installed correctly, and it doesn’t appear to be bent, but I cannot get it even on both sides for the life of me — it slants downward. Also, the hooks on the shelves allowing you to attach the shelves to the cage are difficult to install. The construction is a bit flimsy, but is OK for my single one-year-old cat. It has plenty of room for a covered litter box on the bottom. I put her food and water dishes on one of the shelves so she’s not eating near her litter. She likes laying on the cushion near the top of the cage so she can survey her kingdom. If you are looking for a palace for your cat, this isn’t it. If you are looking for a practical cage for your feline(s), then for the price it’s worth trying out.

This is easy to put up and it will hold up 2 medium size cats or 2 small dogs. You could adjust the shelves and move them lower or higher. The only thing I don’t like at all about this is the wheels. They are too small for this cage. It takes forever to move it around because the wheels are way too small for this large cage. You also need plastic zip ties to hold this unit together. Without the zip ties, it will not hold the shape you see in the picture. So to secure the cage sections, definitely buy yourself a package of plastic ties (black nylon cable tie zip heavy duty plastic). The only litter box I was able to get in was the corner unit they advertised underneath the unit. The bottom area does not leave much room for pets to move around once you add a corner litter box and feed dish. But if you want a secure cage for your small pets to use a short time or for emergency preparation, I would buy this one as its pretty light weight and you can move it from room to room (just needs better wheels).

I ordered this despite the reviews concerning bent parts and difficulty in assembly, because the slide out the bottom appealed to me for easy cleaning. I’m so glad I bought it. I am a 76-year-old woman with arthritic fingers, and I assembled it was no problems in under an hour with only six cable ties. Nothing was bent. Assembly instructions were minimal, but assembly was pretty intuitive if you just looked at the hinges. TIP: Attach cable ties to corners as you work your way up the cage, but DONT TIGHTEN THEM all the way. When assembly is complete, check that everything is square and straight, then tighten them. I also suggest you buy black cable ties. 8 inches should be fine. I did see places where a cat could get its arm caught, but they are at the corners and disappear when you tighten the cable ties.

The “playpen” is great. It’s spacious enough for a large cat without being overly cramped. Still, I would not expect a cat to want to be confined in this cage for all time. I intend to use mine as an infirmary for a new stray kitten I plan to bring inside after she’s spayed. I will then use it to integrate this new kitten into the household of two other cats, and hopefully it will help me keep the peace. My first order came with a broken clasp and bottom tray, but Amazon made the return super easy (UPS came and picked it up/came back three times because it was raining and I didn’t want to leave it outside). The second order seems to be very slightly bent in some places, enough to not make one side of the pen sit properly. However, it’s so slight this could be the result of user assembly error.Assembly is more difficult than it need be. My suggestion is to have a second person on hand when assembling the main structure of the cage. One person can hold the thing up and keep it from collapsing while the other person attaches all of the sides. The instructions really could be clearer in this regard. The sides slide together, and some of the the horizontal bars slide and snap down into loop-brackets (that’s really the only word I can think of to describe them) from top to bottom at each corner. The toughest part is the wheels. The screws are the most difficult aspect of the whole assembly. Each screw comes with: a screw, a flat round washer, a thicker nut, and an extra round washer that is not mentioned in the instructions. This extra round washer is split, like a broken link in a chain. This round, split washer is supposed to go on just above the nut, and it keeps the screw and nut from jiggling apart over time. (The order of installation, from top to bottom, for the wheel components are: flat washer on top, thin metal wheel assembly plate, cage, fat plastic wheel assembly plate, wheel, round washer, nut.) This should be pretty simple. However, the screw is about 1/8 to 1/4 inch too short! It’s really tough to get everything to fit on the little short screws they send. I finally discovered that if I took my pliers and squeezed the round, split washers I could get the split ends to line up better, and the thing would take up less room. This made things considerably easier, but still took more effort than should be really necessary. The screw head is easy to strip, so have both a smallish phillips and flat screw driver on hand. If the phillips (makes the shape of an X ) part gets stripped out, you can switch to the slightly more challenging flat screw driver (makes the shape of an | ) to finish the job. Lastly, the wheels should be installed close to each corner, at almost the last cross of wires. If you inset the wheels, the cage wobbles. The diagram is really unclear, and seems to indicate you should position the wheels further from the edge, but it’s wrong. The text tells you correctly where to place the wheels.

I like this basic cage. But before you sart assembling go & buy longer screws & bolts & washers. It is a pain to use the ones supplied..almost to the point you want to chuck it. Re-enforce with zip ties & use pliers to bend inside hooks closer together.Put shelves in 1St before you zip tie. Bending ibside hooks to safeguard kittens. I bought a pegboard for the top to stabilize it 2×3..which works great. For the price it is a basic starter and with re-enforcing & new screws & bolts it still is a good deal. The doors are wide & the pull out pastic tray is great..I bought the hammock to hang inside. Cats love it. Instead of the cushion I would rather see food & water cups, even if price was a bit higher. This is 3rd I’ve bought & ordering another.

I bought this cage to house 2 rabbits, and so far I’m pretty happy with this purchase. Putting the cage together takes 2 people, but that is only because of the size and weight of the thing. The cage is connected using hooks and it’s own weight and gravity to hold the hooks in place. With that being said I’ve had it come apart a little while I was moving it, as it is very heavy and I have carpeting, so the gravity effect doesn’t exactly work when the top is being pushed one way and the bottom is trying to stay where it is. But this was easily fixed by popping the hooks back into place, no assistance was needed. The bottom drawer is plastic and a bit flimsy. I haven’t had to pull it out yet, but it seems to warp and bend easily and when I was putting the wheels on getting that plastic sheet out was not easy! The shelves are my number one dispute with this thing. The shelves themselves consist of a metal frame and a thin, worthless piece of plastic that looks like the bottom but is way thinner/cheaper material. Upon seeing that I decided to just remove the plastic, but the metal frame is not suited to hold any animal without those worthless plastic slips, so that didn’t work out. The shelves use the same hooks and gravity idea to stay in place, however if your animal in anyway tips the shelf upward when they jump, the shelf will dislodge and collapse along with your animal and who/whatever else was on that shelf. Also because of their design the shelves angle downward and if your animal is heavy and sits on the edge, they might just slide right off.I modified the shelves by zip-tying them to the cage using 2 per each side and 3 to tie it to the back of the cage. This definitely made the shelves more sturdy, but without this my bunnies would have been dumped on the floor. Together they weigh about 8 pounds so a heavier animal might not hold with zip ties, but zip ties are pretty darn strong, so I trust them.I also bought the ProSelect Steel Cat Cage Ramp Kit, Set of 3 to help my bunnies get from one shelf to another. They’re a nice touch if you’re nervous about the jumping aspect of these shelves. The cost is a bit ridiculous, but they definitely make me feel safer knowing that the shelves have that extra reinforcement.I’ll update on how this product lasts over time.

This habitat is great for housing a sick cat or one that needs to be quarantined from the rest for medical reasons. It’s beneficial for shelters, rescues, and folks with multiple cats. I would not put kittens in this playpen. The top shelf does not stay flat – it slopes downward – not safe for any animal. One of the hooks was put on backwards at the manufacturer and I have to use zip ties to keep it fastened.A cat that is difficult to medicate will benefit by getting all their short-term (a week or two) medication/s – so you are not playing hide & seek and catch-me-if-you-can.Not all cats will enjoy being in this enclosure. Some are vocal – some will try to claw their way out for escape. If you cat is miserable for more than 2 days – let it out!!!This is not meant for permanent housing!! You could also consult your vet to see if this is right for you, your family, your pet/s.It’s roomy enough to place a small bed (w/ soft blanket), small litter box, food and water – and safe toys if your cat is playful.PS – always take the cat/s out of the kennel and let it exercise once or twice a day.

I’ve bought two of these for my mom. The first one ordered several months ago was great – easy assembly and worked as it should. However, when the second one was delivered yesterday, the bottom tray was cracked and the doors didn’t line up right. She said she would’ve sent it back if she hadn’t needed it today for her new cat. For the price, seems like packaging should be a little better. Overall, I’d probably look for a different one if I needed another in the future.

I searched far and wide online and off for an affordable structure that would allow our two 12+ Y/O indoor cats to get a taste of the great outdoors safely during the summer. We had originally planned to assemble or build a “catio” but almost everything I found was $1,000 or more by the time all the required accessories were added, plus shipping/handling charges and state sales tax (almost 10%). So, I started looking for something more reasonable and found this cage.It definitely wasn’t easy to put together (two people are needed), but previous experience had shown that it would be a struggle. We set it up just outside my home-office window, and my husband installed a cat door in the screen. A local handyman built a very simple platform that raises the cage off the ground and aligns the cage door with the flap in the screen. One of our cats took to it right away; the other one is more hesitant, but he gets more curious every day.In my opinion this is a safe alternative for indoor cats, and it is certainly cost-effective when compared to the other options I considered. We may purchase a 2nd unit if our other cat overcomes his reluctance and decides to use the cage. That way both cats would have their own space The only negative thing I’ve noticed is that the finish isn’t rust-proof, but it probably wasn’t intended for outdoor use. Since it rains a LOT in Washington State, I’ll need to spray it with rust-preventive paint.

Love this cat pen. Husband assembled it with ease. I recently rescued a family of small kittens and when they matured enough, I started using the pen to move them around the house and to expose to other kitties. They love their pen. Only comes with one bed pad, so I bought two more plus a couple of hammocks. Very plush and kittens love sleeping on them. Hammocks was my added touch which they love as well. Highly recommend this pen. I also added two stainless steel cat dishes to eat from if in pen for any length of time. The only problem i have encountered to date is being able to slide out the bottom tray. It keeps getting stuck so I just vacuum and clean it while in the cage. Not a big deal for me. I am sure if I looked into it, I could fix the problem easily. Would buy a second one if there was a need.

I would like it better if all the parts were there. It was kind of a pain to put together and couldn’t use the casters as the washers/lock washers were missing. The locks for the doors are tricky to use and could be a better design. Overall, I think it might work with a little tweaking. I’ve yet to put kittens in it so we’ll see how that goes.

I have four of these. They are fairly well made. The assembly is easier with two people. The wheels are nice but it takes me forever to attach them with all the little screws and nuts! A good cage for cats/kittens. Note: In some areas of the cage there are two bars. I have had kittens get their toes caught in between, so beware and don’t leave them unattended for long periods. That being said, these cages have been great overall and keep my ferals safe. Love the pullout tray, easy to clean.

Relatively easy to open except that many of the clips intended to hold it together were engaged before assembly & had to be wrestled loose before it could be assembled. Other clips were so bent as to be unusable although enough of the clips were usable to make that a minor problem. However, only one door did not have problems with some aspect such as the hooks to keep the handles closed or the loops at the bottom & top of the handles intended to go around upright wires to close the door. It has done the job intended very well.

I actually wanted to buy a different brand (a little more expensive) but went with this one instead because the price was right. We just needed a place to put my very active and destructive (but loveable!) cat at night. This fits our open top medium sized litter box, her food and water, and a toy or two. She has plenty of room to romp around and play or sleep. We didn’t put the wheels on because we are keeping it in one spot so didn’t seem super necessary for us. Set up was apparently easy (I warned my husband that the other reviews on here stated that set up time was about an hour with two people… he set it up in 15 minuets by himself… soooo I guess it depends on who you are… i KNOW it would have taken me longer) anyways its very sturdy, we didn’t need any zip ties and its been working out great. Love love love it. Also the height is very nice, we put it next to a window so she can look out and get fresh air. I am so happy with this condo. Before this she was peeing on our hardwood floors at night and scratching doors. Now she does none of that! yay! No complaints! i raelly REALLY wish I had thought of it sooner!UPDATE:8/10/2013I just thought I’d add that we STILL love and use this pet condo- it gets daily use from my 1 crazy cat, she sleeps in there over night.(we’ve since got a 2nd but he doesn’t like enclosed spaces and does fine over night so he doesn’t need a condo) she loves it so much, the second I open the door for “bed time” she runs in, and some mornings she doesn’t want to come out. It was a worth while purchase!

This is by far, the best money I have spent for my cats. It does double duty here. I have a 8 month old who was keeping us awake at night. I bought this specific playpen on the advice of a no kill shelter. DO put on the wheels.(I had a cat recovering from surgery I used it for during the day to wheel him out for fresh air. MY 8 month old kitty absolutely loves it. He even goes in on his own by a certain time at night. The design is made to easily clean and put together. So pet and owner are both happy . Anyone who complains about this pen is crazy. For the money, you can’t say one bad thing about it. The construction is great. It is heavy and our post office wouldn’t deliver, so my husband had to go get it. I slid it out of the box, easily, then assembled and I am a 114lb wimpy older lady. I will say one must is: buy BLACK WIRE TIES. I bought the cheapo 4″ long ones. I put them on each corner.

Bought this for my kitten to stay in while I’m not home – for the price, I only have one complaint. And that is that the wheels are complete garbage. They don’t stay on no matter what. I don’t move the cage around much; they just come unscrewed from my cat moving around in it, so that when I do try to move it at all, they completely come off and make moving it ten times harder, because then I have to take the bottom tray out and try to fix it. At this point, I’ve thrown the wheels away, because it’s not worth dealing with it. Other than that, the cage is a little shaky at times, but it works. The shelves stay on, and the tray does come out without TOO much trouble. I added a hammock at the top for my cat to sleep in, and she doesn’t have any problems.

I wanted this for my new kitten to give him more space to play and enjoy himself while he is placed in here during work hours. I love how tall it is and how much space it offers him, and he loves being able to climb and jump as he pleases. It also comes with a little bed, which has little velcro straps that fit perfectly on small metal placers and keep it from coming off. It’s very sturdy velcro and has been put to the test as he has already attacked and attempted to destroy the pillow. There is a lot of space for food bowls, a cat pan, and some toys. What I didn’t like was how much of an absolute pain it is to assemble. It comes all folded up, but during shipping, it settled in on itself more than it should and several of the hooks used to secure the sides and the door got caught on the opposite sides’ bars. Which lead to a lot of prying and several hurt fingers to get it unstuck. That aside, make sure you have a second person to help you and a smaller socket wrench to use on the nuts for the wheels.

I really did. But I have several problems.1. This cage is really big and awkward; two people are necessary to see that it sets up properly. Some people might be able to handle it alone but I’m not one of them. Also, you need zip ties ready to help keep it in place and not collapse back on itself.2. One corner of the plastic bottom tray was broken off. Since the pieces were in the box and not missing, I went ahead and fixed it myself.3. I was unable to fasten the casters on easily. When I tried putting on one caster, I could see that the nuts were too long and would not allow it (the caster) to turn or roll properly.4. I could not get the top and bottom halves of the sides to line up properly; they slid down just a little bit and I couldn’t make them stay flush with each other.5. There is a wide gap between the top and the sides of the crate. A cat could easily catch a paw or claw partially through and get in serious trouble. This is something of a worry and I will probably have to find some “hail screen/cloth” (as it is known locally) to fasten over the top to (try!) prevent such a thing from happening.6. I am also not sure how well the sides themselves will hold up or if there will be any chance of paw/claw getting caught in-between the bars.I do like the overall size and design of the cage though and I like that it has three shelves.I stabilized the shelves with zip ties so they should be ok. It also seems to be fairly solid as well. But you must have a secondary source of bracing to keep it steady. (Otoh, it *is* designed to be collapsible, so that might not be a real fault.)Overall, it is a good product (but not great, I am sad to say) and I think it will work fine for my current needs. I would probably buy it again but only if it were on sale at a reduced price.

I purchased this playpen for a blind cat that I bottle fed as an infant and is now 5 months old. He was living in a large dog crate but had gotten too large. The pen was fairly easy to put together but definitely use zip ties. It does not seem secure enough without them. I originally put the casters on but took them back off because I was afraid it would tip over if my cat climbed up the sides since he can’t see to jump up on the shelves. For the price I am satisfied and my guy already loves the padded bed. His new favorite spot.

I purchased one of these a couple of years ago and it has been perfect; nothing damaged, the shelves locked into place nicely and the doors work fine. I ordered a second one last week and assembled it with the following issues: 1.) one of the shelves was covered with mold or mildew on both sides (I cleaned it); 2.) the shelves did not lock into place as they should; I finally was able to stabilize two of the shelves but not the third (we will see how they hold); 3.) the doors on the right side are misaligned so they don’t fasten easily or correctly; I have had to force them to lock and just use the doors on the left to access the pen. I think it will be okay for the temporary solution that it is right now and it is too much trouble to disassemble it and return it. But I am severly disappointed in this product.

Great cage. I got it when we adopted our kitten and used it to help introduce her to our resident ten year old female cat. We live in a small apartment and did not have the extra room for this introduction. Anyway the cage worked perfectly. With all the levels, the kitten got to exercise and play and we had peace of mind that she was safe when we weren’t home. It’s gigantic though and super heavy, but I did manage to assemble it myself without my husband’s help and it took me about half an hour. It really served its purpose and it’s very sturdy and roomy. I highly recommend.

We bought this brand new but it came damaged. It came with a hole in the bottom, and rusted pieces. On top of that- it was a horror to assemble and did not fit together nicely. I had to use a pliers to bend the metal multiple different times because it wouldn’t fit together or was stuck. The shelves do not fit onto the cage nicely at all and it is impossible to get them stable. Don’t waste your money, invest in a nicer catio.

Installation: terrible! I had to call for help. It’s a two-person job and the cage pieces had to be roughly yanked apart and you had to nearly bend the cage in several places to get the hooked parts all in. Do the wheels first!Use: I’ve had it several weeks now. At first my cat absolutely despised it, but now she will go in voluntarily and spends most of her time there even when the cage is unlocked and all the doors open. I absolutely LOVE the 4 doors. It makes everything accessible and easy to clean. I leave a HUGE litterbox on the floor and her food bowl on one tier and her water bowl on the other tier.Pros: My cat really really likes the soft cover that comes for one of the tiers. I like that it has these velcro things to hold it in place. My cat also adjusted to it fairly quickly. It is NOT as flimsy as some people have made it seem on the reviews. This was one of the cheapest cages for its size so you can’t expect luxury, but it’s definitely a good compromise. It moves fairly easily with the wheels.Cons: When my cat leaps from tier to tier, it SOUNDS like the cage has just collapsed. It’s super noisy, but after a few times, you get used to it. Because of its size, the cage will not roll through a few of the doors in my house.Overall: I was fairly pleased with this cage. I wish it came in a different colour like pink, but beggars can’t be choosers.

I gave this five stars, but in relation to our use and our experience. For the price, this is a very good choice for housing several kittens fostered several years ago. We never had the issue of gaps that some reviewers described, and never did we experience any kitty paws getting stuck in between the corner panels. There are sturdier, more permanent and pricey options out there, but we did not intend for the housing to be permanent anyway. It takes two people to put together, unless you are very patient and go slow (and use props to help hold up sides while assembling). We have ceramic tile floors that helped keep the cage level and straight during assembly. Carpet may affect the lining up of the sides when setting up.We had four kittens approximately 3-6 months old, and used all 3 shelves. They hung nicely, and held up for the job. We used the pads on one or two shelves, but left one uncovered, so we could use it for kitty food. We used the smaller kitten plastic litter box and placed it on the floor of the unit. We also allowed the kittens out frequently to play around the living area, but kept them in at night. We had other resident cats who needed their own time and space with us, and so they did not feel abandoned by us. This balanced the time and also allowed them to gradually get used to each other. We were eager to foster, and this was the most affordable solution for us at the time, and we recommend it for resident use. If you are in the professional fostering business, perhaps a sturdier unit by the ASPCA might better fit, but for us this definitely suited our needs. Again, for the price, it was more than we would have expected. I’m sure it can be shored up (zip ties, etc.) for those who need a permanent solution, and as long as no damage occurred during shipping, a little time and effort might resolve some of the issues noted. No longer needed, it stores nicely and flat and tucked away, just in case.

I decided to give this a shot as kind of a last resort for one of my cats. I brought Tinker and her 3 babies in a few years ago from running wild outside. She was probably dropped off by some moron to fend for herself, and of course got pregnant or WAS pregnant. I had them all checked and tested, and the only problem was Tinker had, and still has chronic diarrhea. Makes for quite a mess. They’re all confined to a heated and air-conditioned sunroom, along with another rescue. It got to the point where the counters, food and water bowls, counter, etc. had to be cleaned every day. I wasn’t sure how she would react to being in a cage, but had to do something. Well, she LOVES it. I also ordered one of those corner litter boxes that was recommended with this cage, and it fits beautifully. I have papers all over it, and her food and water bowls on the bottom shelf so she can’t lay in them. I think she considers this her own private suite, and doesn’t even attempt to get out when the upper OR lower doors are opened. She’s a lot more relaxed and just seems a lot happier. She’s able to jump on any of the shelves with no problem. On to the construction of the cage: it’s somewhat of a pain, and two people could definitely make the job easier. But, being a female and determined to do it myself, I managed. I used garbage bag ties to hold one side together while I put the other side together. The same with the top and bottom. I did some cussing and swearing, but succeeded, and although, as other reviewers mentioned, it doesn’t fit together perfectly, it DOES fit together, and doesn’t allow for an adult cat to escape. Small kittens, maybe, although it still seems pretty well escape proof to me. The castors are a definite plus, as the cage can be moved around to clean under it. I mentioned earlier the two doors, they work out really well and make for easier access to the shelves and bottom of the cage. Overall, it’s fantastic for the price! I’ve seen them for a lot more money, and not nearly as large. Couldn’t be happier, and I think Tinker agrees ; )

Very good for the price. It is sturdy enough, though not heavy duty. It was fairly easy to assemble and I like that it folds up when not in use. I wish that one of the platforms were larger to accommodate for a bigger bed. My cat is about 14 pounds and he just fits on the included bed that attaches to a shelf. My favorite feature is the 4 cat-proof doors. Essentially the entire front of the crate is doors, which makes it easy to access specific areas of the crate without having to play goalie with your cat. It is a good size, though I would consider it the minimum for a cat the size of mine.

Bought this for housing two ferals cats that had been fed by their caretaker all their lives who died and then I took over. Then I had to move, but knew these cats werent going to adjust well with the changes (was hard enough to get them to move to our property even though the new owners next door hated cats and their dogs view cats as food). One was mostly tame but his mother – who he is as bonded to her as she is to him – is not remotely close to being tame in any sense.Needed something to allow her to have a “safe space” inside while I work on getting her more used to humans=good things like food and head scratches that also allowed her to be able to have full contact with her son. This has been ideal. I saw how loose the cage was when I assembled it (which I had my other half help me with so he held the other side while I got one side secured) and I tightened up the hooks with pliers.Didn’t see any reviews about cats getting their toes stuck, but maybe its okay for me since these cats are older and mellow? They would have to be climbing the walls to get their feet into any pinching position as far as I can tell.Anyways we love it and are glad we bought it and the cats are happy to be able to be with each other so I have no compliants really.

I bought this to put my crazy cat to bed at night. He likes to run around and meow loudly. He also likes to drag clothes around like they are some sort of kill he wants us to check out. He also likes to jump on your face or headboard and then run off and play fight with his step brother (who is the sweetest most loving adorable cat on the planet). However a few nights locked up in here and now he is the most well behaved cat. I don’t even need my cage anymore as he sleeps on the bed all night and rarely reverts to his annoying behaviors. Still, I think I’ll keep the cage as a steady threat that he best behave…That said, the cage itself is a very large and strong, but a bit rickety. I used zip ties to really secure the corners and connection points when putting it together as the cage walls don’t line up exactly right in every location.

My kittens love the cage and regard it as a safe zone, returning voluntarily after I release them for exercise. With extra shelves and a hammock, they have several levels on which to play, rest, climb. They also climb the wire walls of the cage. I considered adding ramps, but they don’t need them – perhaps older cats would, but I purchased this as a temporary residence for kittens born to feral mothers. There is plenty of floor space for a bed, litter pan, food and water bowls. I had to enlist help from a neighbor to assemble the casters and put it together – not a one-person task. After a fire destroyed m home, I had to relocate survivors to a rental house for several months and was forced to keep cats in condo cages for the duration, so I purchased several of these,, with extra perch covers. The cats are safe, comfortable and content in these condo cages. I added a 4th shelf to each from ProSelect, using cable ties to attach it. I subsequently purchased cage bowls which attach to the sides to keep litter out of them and to prevent spills.

I had to relocate from CA to NJ with 6 cats- 1 cat was very SR so she had a separate traveling cage but my other 5 loved the two cages that I bought. Lots of room, I bought hanging hammocks as well for them. There was room for the litter boxes I purchased (reviewed) and for the price they cleaned up well.I will say this- they do pop up and hold well, but for the sake of extra safety I did – zip tie at the joints and sections to hold the cage- and cut the excess tie- I only did this because I was traveling 3k miles and I didn’t want to deal with any emergencies or issues while on the road-* plus my cats are our families babies so, I just erred on the side of caution. Once we arrived and got settles in to our new home, thee cages work great on our outside patio for the kitties to get sun and fresh air- as they are indoor not out door.

I purchased this after taking in an unsocialized cat from the street. It was a great place for her to have her own space while she got accustomed to the sights, sounds and smells of a new indoor environment with three other cats. A litterbox fit just fine on the floor, and we only used two of the three perches, but there was still plenty of room for the cat to exist comfortably during the transition. I was nearly put off by the 1 star review, but I found this adequately sturdy. We did take the precaution of using zip ties to reinforce about a dozen spots that we felt could have been problematic, just as a precaution for the safety of the cat. We used it for a little over a year taking the cat through stages of being alone in it with the other cats freely roaming outside, then letting the other cats in to socialize, right through the new cat having the chance to get comfortable enough in her own time that it is now broken down and being stored under a bed. Zero regrets in this purchase.

This is an amazing kennel and the cheapest place I found it was at Amazon.Com, it was over $50 less than any where else I looked. I added a hammock to this, another 2 shelves, a bed on one of the shelves and a smaller litter box on the bottom. It is for kittens that we pull from shelters to give them time adjust and feel safe before we let them run loose in the house. It has 4 doors on the front side, 2 on top and 2 on bottom. The doors each have their own lock to keep closed or will open like a set of French doors. I keep the one by the cat box locked and the one next to it I have a S hook so it stays open just wide enough for the kittens to get in and out of. I do this to give kittens access to get in all the time but to keep our dogs out of it (they love to get into food and the litter box) The top doors I just keep open. The kittens go in to take their naps, to eat, to use the box and to play and jump around. The doors open wide (like French doors) so cleaning it is really easy, I just wipe down with Clorox wipes. The bottom tray also slides out for a quick hose down job when needed.

Good product… could be Great. Doesn’t fit the shelves on the Amazon cat condo. Also when you attach the Velcro fasteners they are off, so only one side can be attached. (short side). And it’s too short to extend all the way across (long way). That’s the only thing I find wrong. I’ve washed it (cold water) and dried it in the dryer (medium heat) and it came out fine. Just wish it was bigger/longer to fit perfectly on the shelf..

I brought this cage after reviewing the recommendations. Nothing else came close to what I needed size and pricewise. Like one of the other reviewers I would get a supply of cable ties to use to make it sturdier. It is heavy and took three people to get it up because of weight. Actually opening it up was easy. The front of the one I received was bent in so it didn’t fit as well at the top but that did not sway me to think about returning it as everything else worked. I did look it over carefully once I had it together to make sure little paws couldn’t get in between. This is where the cable ties come in handy. I used them to stabilize the three platforms and I used them at key points on the side and top to close any larger gaps. I’m not sure if the item needs a better design or better packaging to keep it from being crushed in delivery. The box it came in was torn and some the heavy staples were pulled out leaving me to believe that it was bent by a heavy item being put on top or being pushed against it. It fits in well with the spot chosen. No cats yet as this was purchased before the anticipated arrival so I can’t say how the cats will react.

While it’s a little difficult to figure out how to put together since it comes folded up with parts hooked onto each other that shouldn’t be, once figured out, it’s fantastic. My kitten loved it. Buy extra pads for the shelves. It only comes with one, and the shelves are too slick without pads to rest on. I bought a small cube bed on amazon and a small scratching post. Both fit on the floor. The water and food dish are perfect. I bought an automatic litter box and placed that in another part of the room. My kitten starting going to it after just a few times of placing him in it. All in all, a great product with plenty of room and a safe place for a kitten and adult cat.

We had an “old man” cat, around 20 years old, who was unable to control where and when he had to “go” and we got bloody tired of cleaning up after him.So we bought this, set it up, and plopped him in it. And waited for problems. There were none. He loved it! He had a potty box and food on the bottom, he could move to different shelves, and we left the door open in the day so he could go outside thru the cat door if he wished. Normally he didn’t.Cleaning the cat box a couple of times a day was much better than cleaning the kitchen floor as often. We did not have multiple cats to try it with, but it worked well for our special case.

It fits the general purpose of a place for my geriatric cats to sleep so they don’t walk all over me. The cage feels wobbly as compared to my other Midwest products. It definitely took an extra set of hands to set up and after I used some zip ties, the shelves feel sturdy enough to hold the cats. I wish we could purchase extra padded beds because Nowhere makes 10″ wide beds with velcro. The shelves are tiny so I had to rig two together so my cats can sleep (one on the double shelf, one on the bottom floor). What full sized cat can relax on a 10″ wide shelf? Good for perching but not sleeping. The small litter box and food/water take up most of the bottom so glad I have one smaller kitty who will still curl up in the left over space. That said, fits my need, allows me to sleep at night and I can collapse it (with some effort) if we needed to evacuate. All around decent product.

I thought there was a strong possibility that my 2 cats would think this was jail instead of s playpen. Wrong! They love it. When I start rolling it towards outside door, they run and jump in. Plenty of room for sandbox, water, and food. They spend hours in it on the back patio without any indication of wanting out. I bought additional pads for the other ledges and built 2 ramps so they could easily go from ledge to ledge. Only disappointment is that it is not a real quick process to collapse it, but not enough of a concern for me to subtract stars. This has allowed my 2 young house cats to experience the outdoors without danger. This has enriched our lives because we humans get to enjoy time on the patio once again.

Just what we were looking for. It’s sturdy, easy to assemble and collapse for storage. We got it for our full grown fur ball for the holidays. Having to constantly repair the damage done to our Christmas tree every morning was just too much. After being fussy and not liking being inside for the fist couple of nights she adapted just fine. She now goes in on her own.It did arrive with a couple of issues. One being one of the “s” hook locks for one of the doors was missing and two, the pan was cracked out in one of the corners. I contacted the manufacturer and they sent me out replacement parts that arrived a couple of days later. Great customer service that’s for sure!

Not quite what I was expecting. The box was beat up and the pieces are a little bent. Once together it’s ok. A little wobbly. I did it by myself and after three times pulling it apart and putting it back together I got it done. If you’re doing it alone I suggest using pipe cleaners to hold the sections in place and if you’re in an enclosed space make sure it’s facing the right way. I bought this since my cat loves to escape when the main doors are open so it’ll suffice for our needs since she’ll rarely be in it. Plus she’s not a people kinda cat. Currently she hates it. I’m hoping with a little time she’ll like it better and she can be moved into the main household areas for more socialising.

This play pen houses my 8 year old Siamese that a neighbor threw out of her house when her husband passed away. She has plenty of room to stretch and visit since I have 2 other older cats I am trying to integrate her into the household. I have added a few features like a scratching post and attachable feed and water dishes as well as a nice soft bed for kitty to lay on. We had to bend a few bars back into place when it arrived and some of the screws did not have threads so we had to improvise but all in all it went together well. Its pretty sturdy and works great for our needs. Love the 4 door front opening allows me to clean it easily & take care of kitty in a snap, even though I have arthritis. Only qualm make sure you have a 10 year old help you it will take them 15 to 30 minutes to put together. It took my husband and myself 3 hours.
